Adina, welcome to this blog space! Thanks much for your refecltion. I've always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Abraham story because of his treatment towards both women, so thank you for helping to reclaim this story for me. I definitely believe that we and our leaders are spending too much of our time playing it safe and trying to figure what's attainable and realistic rather than truly imagining a world that could be! One of Abraham Heschel's arguments for the importance of Sabbath has always stuck with me. By taking a day of Sabbath once a week, we have an opportunity to pause and live life as if heaven were already here. In this way, we can begin to learn to recognize what heaven really is. Particularly for activists who tirelessly work day in and day out, this is probably an important lesson.
